Tower of London is a popular tourist attraction in London, located on the northern banks of the Thames. It is a huge defensive and palatial construction, built in 1078 for William the Conqueror.
Tower of London was a prison from which there was no escape because the entrance was right on the water - swam there by boats and carried prisoners to a cell.
Among others were imprisoned here King Henry IV of England, Queen Anne Boleyn, Thomas More, Thomas Cromwell, Lady Jane Grey.
In its history, the building was a fortress, prison, palace and even served as a zoo. Building (including Traitors Gate) is guarded by guards dressed characteristically called Yeomen Warders.
In fortress is now stored many of armor, weapons, jewels and crown jewels (royal ring and apple, scepter with the cross and the world's largest Cullinan diamond, as well as the British crown decorated with the second largest in the world diamond Cullinan II).
The Tower is still inhabited. Its community form Yeomen Warders and their families, the chief stronghold, officials and a chaplain and a doctor.
Symbol of Tower are ravens. Popular legend has it that as long as ravens will live so long will the last British Empire. Ravens are undercut wings and are closely guarded.
I think it’s a beautiful place. It has its own amazing atmosphere and charm. Every corner of this place is very interesting and it has its history. Tower is also a mysterious space which raises a note of uncertainty.
