 This is my first post. I want to decribe the british army during the second World War.

The British in the Second World War

Battle of Britain(from 10 July to 31 October 1940)

        The first phase of the battle it was over the English Channel. Germany wanted to paralyze the shipping channel and disposeD of the British Army watercraft.

        The second phase was characterized by activities battles German planes. Germany tried to destroy the British RAF, both in the air and on the ground. They attacked the airport in the south of England and sea convoys.

        In the Battle of Britain, the British played a big role as well as the Polish fighter squadrons, which often attacked much stronger German formations. The most famous characters during this battle were Lieutenant General Hugh Dowding and Brigadier General Stanislaw Skalski.

        In total, in the Battle of Britain, the Germans lost 1,733 aircrafts, and about 650 were lost.  Germans lost 2,500 pilots. The British lost 915 aircrafts and about 450 were damaged. 544 airmen were killed and 500 were injured.

The defense of Tobruk in Africa (Land) - (from 10 April to 27 November 1941)

Tobruk - an important port and a strategic stronghold in Libya, from January 1941 was in the hands of the British. With the participation of the Italians, Afrika Korps attemped to conquer  the fortress. Fortunately they did not managed to conquer the port. In defense of Tobruk important role played British and Polish troops. Despite the heavy fighting Germany and Italy failed to Tobruk fortress. The actions of British and Polish soldiers were supervised by General Claude Auchinleck and Polish Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade commanded by General Stanisław Kopański.
